While we did the best we could but unfortunately we didn't win the Eco-Challenge 1: Land and Water. Luckily there is one other challenges in the Eco-Challenge contest. EcoLogical is not sure if we are going to participate in the second challenge and/or enter in a contest called the Presidential Award. We are meeting this Tuesday to see.
Don't worry though, the EcoLogical girls are far from gone!

Also a women from IUCN, an organization thats wants to protect biodiversity, talked as well and gave an over view of what needed to happen in the world so we can save its animals.
My dear friend, Mckenzy Haber also gave a 8 minuet speech on his idea of what is happening to the earth and that we have to be the young people have to be the voice to change it. Hey, thats the Ecological Girls! And wait to go Mckenzy, I can't believe to gave a speech in front of 2000 people. WOW!
Tonight, the Congress will be visited by the Mexican President, which I am looking foreword to.
I have to go back to the sessions right now. Over and Out!

Fashion Show Success
Hello, we had a very successful fashion show on October 24 2009. There was over a hundred people in attendance and we had 29 models. It was great turn out! I would like to Thank Island and Oceans Visitor Center for letting us use their space as well as all of those wonderful designers and models, you guys where amazing!
We had the fashion show on International Day of Climate Action! Over 180 countries participated in most widespread day of environmental action!
The Fashion show was intended to promote recycling. The Ecological team is working toward a zero waste world! We challenge you to use only one trash bag a week, two of our five team members have taken up the challenge. Can you?
Also at our next meeting we will be taught a song by Jewel's Aunt Sunrise Sjorberg! How cool is that?
Watch our you tube account 1ecological for a link to the you tube of the fashion show and a you tube on how to get plastic trays at your school in 10 days.

NEWS
Today we were interviewed by the Homer News and also got to have a tour of Islands and Oceans Visitors Center
Did you know they recycle 84% of their waste?
The US makes up 5% of the Worlds population and uses 25% of its resources, isn't that sad?

Six days down, 29 to go.
Hey, so we have done a ton in our six days of being the team of EcoLogical and we have 29 more to go until our power point presentation is due to Eco-Challenge people.
In six days we have-
- Achieved our school board approval to go foreword with getting recyclable lunch in our school. We had to go in front of the whole school board, and like 30 other people who were attending the meeting and give a speech. So scary!
- Apparently we made an impression on them because the president of the borough assembly actually sent letter to the mayor about us! How cool is that?
- We also got our local waste management recycling plant to add tin to their list of things recyclable. Wow thats like three things in six days!
- Also we created a blog(duh, your reading from it!) and a you tube account, also a Facebook! the internet is such a easy way to spread information! Imagine the people who tried to make a difference back in the old days.( Shudders!)
- We also have in the works a fashion show/costume party, guess what the theme is?
REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE!!! Its still in the works so where not sure on the time, day, etc... but when we do know we'll certainly post it here! - Oh! And I almost forgot! We also talked to our local school site council and they were completely for us! Now all we have to do is implement our plan a little more.
Hasta luego! ( See you later in Spanish)

The EcoLogical Team has arrived!

It was made by a group of students in Alaska, who are doing there best to help change the world, one tray at a time. Syd, Adi, Han, Tay, and Kat are the students. Bre is the advisor.
We are doing the Lexus Eco Challenge: Land/Water for 2009. Our idea is to 1st, eliminate styrofoam trays from our schools to cut down on our trash. 2nd, we are planning on doing a recycled fashion show to spread the word about reducing, reusing, and recycling. 3rd, we want to plant more recycling bins around our general area.
We started with our local middle school's styrofoam trays. We went to the School Board and proposed that we use either stainless steel trays or plastic trays to reduce our annual trash load. We also did a presentation to the Site Council at the middle school proposing the same thing. Both groups were willing to let us continue down the road with our mission.
We are also planning a recycling fashion show. Details to come. =)

How you can help

EcoLogical
How You can Help
There are two easy ways to recycle:
1. Don't throw away plastic bottles in your own home, create a seperate area for plastic, paper (newspaper, computer), and cardboard
2. Instead of buying plastic bags at your local grocery store, bring a normal cotton bag of your choice instead
By implementing these things in your daily life cycle you can be contributing a lot to how you affect the planets environment.
- EcoLogical Team
EcoLogical: How we are Helping
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
"We at EcoLogical wish to impart the knowlege on how you can help save the Earth, one recyclable plastic bottle at a time"
- The EcoLogical Team
What are we doing to help?
We at EcoLogical are trying to get reusable, biodegradable, lunch trays at our school. Every day at our school we use 100 Styrofoam trays, thats 18,000 a year, imagine how that could help fill up a landfill!
We are also trying to get better, more, recycle trash cans in our school.
