TEDx EcoLogical Presentation Over view

When I found out I was selected to speak at the TEDx teen event in Homer I was so excited. My family and I enjoy finding fun TED talks to share with each other. Because I am a homeschool kid we enjoy talks that have to do with education ideas, authors and kids issues. Knowing I was going to be live steamed on the internet was a bit overwhelming. I prepared my speech based on the Presidential Youth Award my friends and I had just won. The theme of the Homer TEDx event was "Sustain Us". It didn't take long to answer what sustains me - my friends! While writing my speech and selecting pictures to accompany my Power Point presentation I had one hurdle to overcome. I had to get my speech down to five minutes. Imagine my surprise when I was standing in front of the cameras with my wireless microphone speaking live to the world and I realized the timer had the clock for three minutes, instead of five. I talked fast and clipped through my presentation in record time. All in all it was a successful talk. I'm glad I did it. It was personally a great experience.

TEDx Homer this year included a separate event just for teens. The four teen organizers, myself, McKenzy Haber, Katherine Dolma and Justice Sky all had a bet on how many would attend the teen event. McKenzy won! We had 41 attendees. We picked the talks, organized an after event beach party and participated in an outdoor Grandmother Drum drumming seesion. It was the hottest day of the year and the sun shine and drumming was a great was to transition from the indoor TED event to the outdoor beach party. All in all it was an opportunity for Homer teens to watch and listen to some amazing TED talks while lounging on pillows in a beautiful, dark room. Next year we hope to have more local teens to attend. 9/10/11 is the date. It's a Saturday. See you there!
Over and Out,
